Cheese and Leicester

So where does time go, it was a blink of the eye and there we were young skinny and full of life, it was 1978, 1979. It was supporting Dr Feelgood it was supporting The Tubes. When people come to get things signed its how we connect, i saw you when… and i gaze on as i try and remember who i was and what it must have been like. 60 years old and not as nimble i wade through the songs in the set swimming against the tidal chords and wonderful melodies that are Squeeze. I over heat, i stand still and look out at the time as it passes, i know this is now, this is the past already. Tonights show was calmer than the night before it seemed surreal in many ways as my tiredness claimed victory over a vacant heart. I took the train today from Liverpool to London and then up to Leicester to save my driving head, it was gentle but it was travel and all travel takes its toll, i forget that as my inner child sits and looks out of the window in search of steam and black and while villages passing by. It was a long day, they all are, and in to the distance more. I enjoyed tonight, it took me back, back to the days when the back of a van was the back of a van and a bag of chips was catering. Nostalgia is creative as this album shows, I’m so lucky to be in this passing moment but with age i know its not coming back, when you are young you just don’t give a toss. And why should you. On stage i heat up and cool down, I’m hungry and lapse from the page, a miss a few chords and cut my deepest paws. The drive back to London with Gordon and Melvin took us through some heavy rain, a badly made cheese roll and the M1.
